Rosemary and Larry Mild bring you The Moaning Lisa, their fourth Paco and Molly mystery.  Now in their eighties, Paco and Molly have moved into Gilded Gates, an assisted living community in Maryland. They expect their golden years to be blissful. They are dead wrong. Some residents have mysteriously vanished. One distressed resident is a sleepwalker and hears a woman’s anguished moaning, but where is she? Retired Inspector Paco and Molly reluctantly agree to investigate. The Hawaiʻi Literary Arts Council announced Rosemary and Larry Mild have been named recipients of the 2024 Elliot Cades Awards for Literature, the state’s most prestigious literary honor.

Patrice M. Wilson's 5-poem spread called "the music arrives," appeared in Issue 96 of the print literary journal CHOLLA NEEDLES, Richard Soos, Editor. Available at Amazon.com, the journal's name refers to a California cactus that has small, sharp needles; it is published in Joshua Tree, CA. Her section’s title is a phrase taken from one of the poems called "Such Music." The other titles are "Everyday," a revision of her poem about squirrels; ”A Mother”; "From the Diary of a Lunatic"; and "Closing the Chicken Run.” She read “Everyday” and “A Mother” at previous NLAPW May meetings.

Kaethe Kauffman PhD is in a group exhibit, Art on Paper, a New York Art Fair in Manhattan, Pier 36 in September with the Walter Wickiser Gallery based in New York. In October she'll be featured in a one-person exhibit with the gallery.

Kaethe Kauffman PhD will co-edit the Chasing the Light column in Midweek, a weekly newspaper. Please send submissions to her at: kauffmanart@gmail.com. The essay must be 300 words plus a quotation plus a photo. (If you don't have a photo, Midweek will find one for you.) The essay should be spiritual, heartfelt, inspiring or insightful, in keeping with the Chasing the Light tradition.

Leslie Hayashi has published two picture books with national presses. Mazie's Amazing Journey: From Immigrant to US Senator has been released as the first in the Many Faces of the Lawseries by the American Bar Association. Saving Hawai`i's Honu released by Reycraft. Manners Matter, Stitch! a project of Disney Learning published by Random House. Leslie also continues to write for HMSA's Island Scene.

Dorothy Winslow Wright, our oldest (and wisest) Honolulu member, has a new book out! Her younger son, Stephen, and grandson Nicholas, made it possible and it's now available on Amazon. Dorothy Winslow Wright, Selected Poems gives a small sampling of her poetry and sketches. At 102, Dorothy still writes and sketches in her journal each day.

Ian Evans’ new novel The Last Villa was published in November 2024 by the UK publisher Pegasus, and is available from the publisher or on Amazon. Jane Marshall Goodsill’s Voices of Hawai`i: More Untold Stories from the Aloha State will be released in October 2024. This is the third volume of Voices of Hawaiʻi series. It is a collection of vignettes from oral history interviews on a number of topics related to Hawaiʻi will be available on Amazon. The late Jan McGrath’s book Wayward Poet, illustrated by Anita Benson Bradley, is available on Amazon andBarnes & Noble. The author's poems in this collection, some cheeky, others poignant or pointed or fierce, are introspection and observation of family, friends, and lovers, as well as places lived from rural hometown to Maine, Kenya and her home in Hawaii.
